One intermission is not enough
J.Timar - Sarnia, Ont.
The Sunday's (Nov 18) performance was great. Unfortunatley it could not be enjoyed fully, because the long opera was compressed into two acts. Near the end of the act the tired members of the audience were fidgeting and shifting in their seats, causing people around them to shift their positions to see (including myself).

I would recommend this opera to any first timers! Its light, romantic, and has beautiful arias! This was my first opera and I enjoyed it immensely!

Perfect singers
Karrie Nash - Sterling Heights
Wow, I cannot believe there is such a bad comment on here about "Figaro." By the way, the emperor said "Too many notes" about "The "Abduction From the Seraglio," not "Le Nozze di Figaro." The music in "Abduction" was something new and beyond their time. Anyhow, I absolutely cannot say enough about MOT's production of "The Marriage of Figaro." The singers were FANTASTIC and the whole production, costumes and everything were just beautiful. The acting was superb. I know this opera like the back of my hand (it was my first time seeing it live though!) and I can tell you this was top notch. I am still thinking about the wonderful time I had. I want to give special kudos to Ailyn Perez who played Susanna on that day. She was THE perfect Susanna. So lovely with a voice to match. And she gave so much energy. Also, to Kyle Pfortmiller, who had such a strong baritone voice. He was just perfect for the count. But I could go on and on about the singers! Also, I always appreciate that MOT keeps their operas "Traditional," meaning set in the time period it is supposed to be in. Thank you for that!! This is my second time at MOT and I will be back many more times!!!

Ying Huang sparkled
Stephen Walker - Grosse Pointe Park
I saw the Saturday (11/17/2007) performance and I loved it! I am pretty familiar with the Marriage of Figaro, having seen it once before, also at the MOT. The music was wonderful. Although the entire cast did a great job, I especially liked Ying Huang in the role of Susanna. Besides having an absolutely lovely voice, I liked the wonderful sparkle and personality she brought to the part. I also liked Weston Hurt as the Count.
A wonderful afternoon
Marlene Kondelik - Albion
My family and I attended Sunday's performance of 'The Marriage of Figaro' and loved every minute. The entire cast sounded fine, with special kudos to Ailyn Perez as Susanna and Kyle Pfortmiller as Almaviva. The conducting by Jane Glover was superb. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.
Excedrin headache K. 492
Zoltan Janosi - Grosse Pointe
We saw the Sunday (11-11-07) performance. The singers were third rate, especially Figaro. The first act lasted 1 1/2 hours and was full of repetitive melodies. I got a slight headache and left during the intermission. As the emperor said in Amadeus: too many notes. The plot is idiotic. I enjoyed Dr. DiChiera's Cyrano much more than this outdated "masterpiece." Perhaps I would have stayed if the singers had been better.
