MICHIGAN OPERA THEATRE’S DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY PROGRAMS PRESENTS:
AN OPERA WORKSHOP

Candace de Lattre Directs Aspiring Divas and Divos in New Workshope
DETROIT, Michigan, December 18, 2007…Michigan Opera Theatre’s Department of Community Programs will present a new Opera Workshop for aspiring opera stars from the Detroit Metro area. Directing the new workshop will be renowned local opera singer, teacher and lecturer Candace de Lattre. Talented singers ages 18 and older will be considered for the workshop. Exceptional high school singers will also be considered.
“Our new opera workshop is a sign of our growing Community Programs department,” says Director of Community Programs Karen V. DiChiera. “We are continually impressed by the quality of young singers that make their start here at Michigan Opera Theatre.”
The workshop will rehearse Thursday evenings from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Chrysler Foundation Black Box Theater at the Detroit Opera House. Rehearsals begin Thursday, March 6. Final performances will be held Thursday, May 1 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 3 at 5 p.m.
To apply for the program, please send a resume and/or biography, a completed application form (available at www.MichiganOpera.org), a recent photograph and a video or sound recording in a standard format (VHS, DVD, CD or standard size cassette tape) of the applicant singing two contrasting pieces of music in two different languages. Completed application packets must be received no later than February 10, 2008 by: Candace de Lattre, Detroit Opera House Dept of Community Programs, 1526 Broadway, Detroit, MI 48226.
A non-refundable deposit of $50 is due with each application. Deposits will be refunded only in the case of non-acceptance or cancellation of the workshop. A participation fee of $250 covers all costs associated with the workshop.

About Candace de Lattre
Candace de Lattre is an accomplished and highly regarded opera singer, teacher and professional. De Lattre has appeared with several opera companies throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, and has sung with major orchestras and professional ensembles throughout the country. De Lattre is the first American vocal examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Ontario and is the founder of DIVA!, or the De Lattre Institute of Vocal Arts in Flint, Michigan. Since its inception, she has presented several workshops and seminars for Michigan Opera Theatre in their summer Learning at the Opera House series.

The award-winning department provides educational opportunities to more than 100,000 people, of all ages and backgrounds, annually.
